close laptop lid but leave running

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15, 7000 series laptop.  I have an external monitor hooked up to it.  When I close the lid on the laptop I want it to stay powered up and have the display still on the external monitor.

I can't figure out how to do this.  Can someone help?
