IBM Flex System FC3171 switch IP change
Hi Folks
I'm having troubles to change the FC3171 switch IP on the external Management Interface, when trying to change the IP the switch request to configure a valid reachble gateway, but according to IBM documentation the Gateway IP cannot be changed.
Best Regards.

Hi,
Cannot change the default IP 10.0.0.1 for the FC3171 SAN switch, the system don't accept the new IP address filled since the default gateway address configured could not be reachable!!! basically the gateway address cannot be changed as either the gateway address value grayed in the network properties dialog box and as described on the "IBM Flex System FC3171 8 Gb SAN Switch QuickTools User’s Guide" at page 67
Regards.

They may not want you to change IP information using the web interface because if something gets messed up, you could loose access to it. However, the CLI can be used via IP or SOL and using SOL you can always get to the interface.

Hi,
After resolving IP configuration problem, I'm facing an other problem which is ou-if-band Management!!
I cannot connect using the external management interface to the switch, I did disable in-ban management for one switch and loose access to it:(
Regards.

Serial over LAN. This is something that blade systems use to communicate with the different IO modules (fibre channel switches, Ethernet siwtches, ect.).

Hi,
Ok I see,, so from the MGMT ethernet port I will use this interface to make a SOL?
is there any tool that I can use?
Also the mgmt port can connect to network or not?? my objective s to manage the SW using SNMP I tried many times to get the default Flex vlan get connected to the network without success, that's why I'm trying to use management interface to connect them.
Best regards.

No, there is an internal LAN on the blade center and the SOL uses it.
The managment port should be able to connect to the network, you just have to make sure that it is configured with the correct IP address/subnet mask, and that the external switch port it is connected to is configured correctly.

Hi,
I did configure the IP and mask using CLI and configure the appropirate VLAN on the switch without accessing the FC switch using the MGMT port, I triyed using direct donnectivity from my laptop without success also!!
I did a reset in order to get all new parameters well reconized without success, I did disable in-band management (guess that this will block ou-of-band management using the external mgmt port) and reset the switch! now I can not access the switch any more neither from the mgmt port nor from Flex chassis in band management!!
Regards.

What happens when you issue "set setup system ipv4" and fill in all the parameters?
