study/test javascript code on macbook

I have some javascript, css and html exercise files I got from the training. In the training i ran and tested it on  IIS on windows 7 machine so everything was fine.

I want to do the same in macbook pro... what is the fastest way to have something like IIS in which i can create websites out of those tutorial chapters and hence view/run Javascript, css, html in browser...

do i need something like IIS server(apache etc)  in macbook or i can just do it with some free software...
Can i do it in google chrome or some other software

thanks a lot....

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If it is simple client side webpages that you are writing with html/css/javascript there is nothing extra you would need. You should be able to open your html file in your web browser and everything should run OK. You may need to change some settings on your browser of choice to allow you to run local Javascript. Alternatively, if you want an alternative to IIS (web server software), I'd recommend using MAMP http://www.mamp.info/en/ . MAMP stands for Mac OS, Apache (webserver), MySQL (database), and PHP (server side scripting language). This will give you a full operating webserver on your Mac.

I agree with @sno0401.  Unless there is server side code in PHP, you don't actually need a web server to test javascript, css and html.  You just need a place to put the files and a text editor like Text Wrangler http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/ or an HTML editor like Bluefish http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html .
