Updating Vcenter 5.5 to update 2b from 0b

Hi, i will be updating our vcenter 5.5 to 2b from 0b, we have a vcenter based backup software Avamar scheduled to run every night, i'm afraid VC unavailability will cause backups to fail, what are best practices, backup admin doesn't want to skip backup for that night.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In your case I would upgrade in the day this will cause no VM outage as vCenter is just a management server.

The upgrade only takes maximum 30 minutes. Make sure vCenter us fully backed up and not running on a snapshot as its slower to upgrade.

Insert ISO media and run setup it will detect and upgrade.

I would make a clone of vCenter server and if upgrade goes wrong you can always start the cloned VM and remove failed one.

You can update vcenter during daytime. I hope you can live couple of hours without changing vm parameters (others already outlined update procedure)
