Cluster with no roles defined

I have a working exchange cluster that likes to failover once in a while. The cluster was created by a third party. When I'm looking at the Failover Cluster Manager I see that there are no roles present. I see nodes and I see networks but no roles or storage (disks or pools). Are these things that should be defined in the cluster?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is by design. When you create a DAG it creates the cluster and adds the appropriate nodes and networks. So if you have this setup you should only see items under "Nodes" and "Networks",

If you are using Exchange 2007 and you are using SCC (Single Copy Cluster) you are then using Shared Storage which you would have your hard drives located under storage in Cluster Manager.

Having shared storage is not recommend because it is only redundant at the Server level. If something happens to your SAN or Shared Disk then you are out of luck. With DAG you have independent storage so each server in the DAG has individual storage presented and transaction logs are sent to the Standby DAG members.

So this is completely normal.
