Specific email going to the junk folder
Hey Everyone,
Ok so. We have exchange 2010 and the user has outlook 2010 with our exchange server and a gmail account set up. The issue is that no matter what I try email from ONE specific user goes to junk. Not the "junk mail" folder, just a folder labeled junk. Here is the strange thing. I have a rule in the inbox AND that junk folder where any mail from this specific user goes to the inbox. The rule is set to run all the time. When i manually run the rule, the messages move to the inbox for about 1 min, then return to the junk folder. I even deleted the junk folder (it was still in deleted items) I moved another email from the same user to the inbox and after 1 min the message moved to the junk folder which is now a sub folder of the deleted items. We use appriver as our spam filter but i dont think this has anything to do with them as this person is on the whitelist and the messages are not being tagged as spam. Please help

I had a similar issue -- messages going to junk even though no rule saying so and having nothing to do with spam filter at the server. My solution: check the Home tab > Junk group > Junk e-mail options. It was set to something other than "No Automatic Filtering". I turned that off and problem solved. Criteria for Auto filtering must be very odd. Messages for buying health insurance and losing weight made it through to the inbox, but the same legitimate, routine sender got routed to junk.

Hey Mark, thanks for the response. I just checked and "no automatic filtering" is check on both exchange mailbox and gmail mailbox.
Usually a learning filtering which seems what grabs the message and dumps it into the junk folder. When in the junk folder, do you have an option to indicate that this message is not spam?
Does this sender in inbox ends up in the junk folder for every user. Trying to see whether it is exchange server rule, or local user specific issue.

Hey Arnold, yes. Not only is the sender on the safe senders list for that folder, but i have a rule that when emails hit the junk folder the email goes to the inbox. Like i said, when i run this rule, the email goes to the inbox for 1 minute then back to the junk folder.

Thanks Guys. It was the users smartphone. It was an android s4 with the email address in the "spam addresses" section of the phone.
