"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello,

Sorting is always adding over head to performance. Here question is awoke as you have read this in some blog or book to use presorted data.

Data flow has below types of components :

Non Blocking
Blocking
Semi Blocking

Sort is a blocking type of transformation. That will add data to new buffer and new thread will be create to sort data.Sorting will add additional overhead to data flow in place of we can use order by in sql source which is far better.

You can mark isSorted property to true if data is already sorted and you want to use source in merge, merge join transformation or transformation which required sorted data.
