Monitoring shares

Hi, I have a file server running on Windows 2k8 R2 that holds all files, including user profiles, documents, etc. There is no quota on how much space users can take(not my policy) and lately, drive space disappears at an alarming rate. Are there any free tools out there to monitor who's adding what to the file shares?

Thank you!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Add the File Server Role service: File Server Resource Manager. It lets you make storage reports, configure quotas,

- Read the help.
- Start Server Manager.
- Pick File Services.
- On the right pane, scroll down to Role Services.
- At the right, pick Add Role Services.
- Follow the wizard.

Agreed, File Server Resource Manager.

You can also enable quotas but NOT enforcement so you can see who's using how much space at a glance.
