Re sizing Server 2003 D: drive without taking it down, no more HDD space left
I have IBM Notes Domino running on a Server 2003. My .nsf stuff is on D: drive, which I am running out. IBM Lotus Domino doesn't like when its out of space. I got very very little space on C: drive as well. What are my options to increase the size of D: drive without taking it down?
It is possible only when you have dynamic disc D: in your server and when you can add storage to server without shutting it down (ex. add some space from storage array).
IF the system supports hot swap, insert a new harddisk and enlarge your D drive with space from the new drive. By converting the disk to a dynamic disk and add space from the new disk to D drive.
But its a quick and dirty solution, if either of the both disks break the data is lost/damaged. Also the converting process is not totally safe and could go wrong and damage either c and d partitions.
So you need a recoverable full system backup in any case.
Be aware that this move cannot be undone, you cant UNSPAN the new disk from the old one.
A better and cleaner way would be a migration to a bigger drive even it will cause downtime.

I have always used Easus partition tool(EPM) to resize disks on the fly without rebooting. It is free when being used in a non server environment, but as a company, we made the decision to buy a copy to be used in our server environment and we use it often. Well worth the few hundred bucks to get a server version as it is very easy and works with basically all operating systems.
