WSUS error 80244019 on certain machines

We are having an issue with our WSUS where certain machines are getting the error 80244019.

Its not all machines or any specific OS's.

I searched for a solution and have tried:

I ran the solar winds agent diagnostics which all came up ok
Have install the update KB2828185 which includes (2530678, 2530709, 2720211, 2734608)
Running - wsusutil reset
I wiped one of the machines having an issue
Uninstalling and reinstalling WSUS

Still cannot figure out what the issue is!

There probably is a policy to redirect clients to a WSUS server while the WSUS server does not exist. You need to DISABLE the policy"Specify intranet Microsoft update service location" so the client will connect to Microsoft to check for updates.

Check this:

Configure Automatic Updates by Using Group Policy

If this policy is already disabled, or the machine is in a container without policy for WSUS, please reset the registry value UseWUServer = dword:0x0 , or delete the entire registry key HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate which will revert the WUAgent to the original installed behavior of Windows Updates.

Let me know how this works out and the results of the suggested tasks listed above.

I look forward to your reply.

They are redirected to a WSUS thats exactly what I want them todo.

The error 80244019 suggests that the machine is not communicating with the WSUS Server.
Are all these computers on the same subnet?

Can you post

from a working computer and one from a non working computer so we can compare

Please see attached.
robquartzelecAuthor Commented:
Please see attached not working:
Thomas GrassiSystems AdministratorCommented:
I found this that may help you

Also what version of WSUS you running?
robquartzelecAuthor Commented:
Sorry that first 'not working' file was incorrect please see the new one so unfortunately that link doesnt help.

I tried the suggestion in the link but it didnt help im afraid.
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
Do you have this update installed ??
robquartzelecAuthor Commented:
I had not installed that update, Ive just put it on now and it still doesn't work.
Thomas GrassiSystems AdministratorCommented:
How many computers are working?
How many computers are failing?

On one of the failing did they ever work?

If so try going back to a previous Restore Point on one of the failing computers see if that helps.

What database you using internal or SQL?
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
You may also need this latest WSUS update as well
robquartzelecAuthor Commented:
trgrassijr55 - It seems 2 thirds are working out of about 350 machines.
Yes these machines worked previously,

System restore made no difference and even the freshly loaded machine did not work.

Using the default so Internal in guessing?

dstewartjr - Yes that update is already installed.
robquartzelecAuthor Commented:
I have reloaded the server from scratch and added wsus back on but I am still receiving the same errors from some clients!

Any more things for me to try?
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
99 % of the time 80244019 is miscommunication of some sort.

Verify firewall settings.
Check for inadvertent proxy settings.
Verify they are pointed to the correct WSUS server and port # with a reg query
reg query HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Thomas GrassiSystems AdministratorCommented:
If you had groups set up make sure you name them the same. They must match what you GPO has defined

From a workstation command prompt

reg query hklm\software\policies\Microsoft\windows\windowsupdate

This will show you the settings
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:

Repeating what I just suggested ??
DonNetwork AdministratorCommented:
Also a mismatch on the target group will not cause 80244019, It will just throw the computers in the unassigned computers group

The WSUS is now working after the reinstall. Over night all the updates have finished downloading and all machines are now able to check for, download and install new updates.

This was not the issue before as they had already downloaded, so no idea what the issue was but a fresh install of windows and WSUS role has resolved it no other settings where changed group policy etc.

Thanks for your help.
