Many Generic Volume Shadow Copies - Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit

Troubleshooting for a friend find many problems in Event Viewer.  When in device manager, showing all, hidden devices, etc. find that more then 30 line items for Generic Volume Shadow Copies under "Storage Volume Shadow Copies" then another 3 line items under "Storage Volumes".  Currently there are 2 internal hard drives on this system and 2 DVDs, with one external USB Drive.  Is this normal?  Totally unclear about why so many and how it impacts system performance and the many problems on this system such as DNS Client Events with tons of hits saying "timed out".

Thank you for your insight and help.

having many VSS writers is not a problem, each is for a different item
from an elevated command prompt
vssadmin list writers

should come back with each having a state of stable and last error being no error.
This has nothing to do with dns lookups. Suggest you change from the isp's DNS servers to google public dns (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) or opendns (208.67.222.222/208.67.220.220)

Does changing this in anyway cause security issues?

There were no errors running vssadmin list writers at elevated prompt.

We've been troubleshooting this system for eons.  Could these be causing some issues?
1)  71,300 line items in the administrative section of the event log since 2007
2)  Only one Printer, and errors.  One works as copy1, and the other is not listed in devices and printers, but when I click the preferences on it another original of it is shown to opt as default printer.  Too strange.
3)  Many registry related items such as ...  Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

 DETAIL -
1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-484763869-1500820517-839522115-1014:
Process 672 (\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\winlogon.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-484763869-1500820517-839522115-1014

Also can't find disk mgmt. function on this system.  Created a new user with Admin functionality to no avail, all the same issues.

Some timeouts point to sites not visited and IPV6.

So many issues to unravel and your help is very much appreciated.  If this should be multiple questions, please let me know.  Not sure how yet to change the DNS server as you recommended as well.  It's been a long time since I've dealt with these issues.

Thank you again.

diskmgmt.msc is the item you're looking for.

for the printers unplug the printers (if connected to the computer) go into device manager enable hidden items and then uninstall all the printers and delete the drivers and then reinstall the printers required.

Thanks a lot.   I have only one usb connected printer. Will be returning tomorrow to that system and report results.

The search does find it.   The sfc /scannow finds no problems.

diskmgmt.msc found, thank you.  There are so many problems on that system, I'll need to open other questions.

It seems the more we fix, the more other problems surface on this upgraded system.
