"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Please try booting to either safe mode or to safe mode with dos prompt. This can be done by tapping the F8 key when the system first begins boot.

Try safe mode first. If that does not work, then use safe mode with DOS prompt. Please let us know if this works then we will take the next step.

Look at post #5 here
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/22225-lsassexe-object-name-not-found/
(copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\lsass.exe to c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe)

There is a good answer & link on the Microsoft site here ...
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-files/lsassexe-is-missing-in-windows-xp/5fe25364-dde9-467b-a270-0dc586f8d902

It might be worthwhile running this from recovery console: chkdsk /r

You will need an alternate method to access your Windows files and repair the damage.
Burn Knoppix (http://knoppix.net) to a CD, then boot to the Knoppix disc.
Then:
1) Rename "c:\windows\sytem32\config\security" to security.bak
2) copy c:\windows\system32\repair\security to the location above.

Reboot normally.

what model PC is this, - or mobo model?
i would start by running ram and disk diags; i use the UBCD for this :
Hardware diagnostic CD    UBCD

go to the download page, scroll down to the mirror section, and  click on a mirror to start the download
Download the UBCD and make the cd   <<==on a WORKING PC, and boot the problem PC from it
Here 2 links, one to the general site, and a direct link to the download

since the downloaded file is an ISO file, eg ubcd527.iso - so you need to use an ISO burning tool
if you don't have that software, install cdburnerXP : http://cdburnerxp.se/

If you want also the Ram tested - run memtest86+ at least 1 full pass,  - you should have NO errors!

For disk Diagnostics run the disk diag for your disk brand (eg seagate diag for seagate drive)  from the HDD section -  long or advanced diag !  (runs at least for30 minutes)

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/                        ultimate boot cd
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html             download page

**  you can make a bootable cd - or bootable usb stick
