How to install a wireless printer on a MAC Note book

Hello Everyone,

a few days ago I went to help a neighbor to install her wireless mac printer. She got rid of her Verizon DSL modem and router and asked me to replaced with the new Verizon all in one modem-router-wireless. I did that part and  also installed the wireless printer connected to her ManBookPro but it prints intermittently. what is the right procedure to install a wireless printer on a MacNotebook?

Please help I need ot go back tomorrow and I really have no clue..i am trying to do learn something before going back tomorrow night :)

Thank you,

Here is the Apple KB on how to install a printer:  https://support.apple.com/en-is/HT4670

Might have been helpful if you told us what model printer and what model Mac.

I have a perhaps similar problem: My Mac only prints to my HP wireless printer if everything is 'woken up' first. If the printer is in sleep mode, if doesn't wake up fast enough (or the Mac gives up too soon). Does you neighbour still have the problem once the printer is active?

Good point Strung I texted to my neighbor and she told me she has an HP 8600 Series. She will be more accurate tonight once she will arrive at home. I won't go to help her tonight because I don't feel ready. I need to do some more reading and researches.

Simon, before I switched the router it was printing fine and faster, after I replaced her router it takes 30- 40 seconds before it prints and as soon I walked out of her apt it stopped printing.

should I use the CD and utilities that comes with the printer to set it up ( this is how I did it) it discovered the printer automatically, or should I assign a static IP address to the printer and point the PCs to it ? which one is the easier way to do it ?

Thank you

Sounds like a network problem. I would delete the existing printer in the Mac's Printers and Scanners prefs file and re-install it.

A static IP for the printer is a good idea, but make sure it is in the same subnet as the router, but outside the range served up by the router's DHCP server.

For instance, if the router serves up IP addresses between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.150, set the printer to 192.168.1.200.

thank you both of you...I also have a mac Air so I am going to read and play and get ready. Once I go out there at her apt I will first reinstall the printer from the scratch to see if it fix the latency problem then share with you any other issue until I will be able to fix this permanently. in the meanwhile thank you for pointing me to the right direction.
