Hid Email Account from GAL - User's can't send as the account now

We had a couple email accounts that were hidden in the global address list and now the user's who could send as these email addresses prior are receiving a permission error (see attached)

We have already confirmed that they have full mailbox rights to these email accounts. Is there any way to hide the email address from the global address list without it denying the users permissions to send as?

We tested unhiding the email address from the global address list and the users were then able to send as they were able to before the hiding took place.

Full mailbox does not mean Send As permissions as well. That link was broken in Exchange 2003 Sp2 (I think - it was a long time ago). You need to have both permissions to be able to send.

How are you selecting the address for sending? Are you entering something in the from field?
The best way to do this is to use Outlook 2010 or higher and add the mailbox as an additional ACCOUNT, not an additional mailbox. However hiding the mailbox makes doing either much more difficult.

Simon.
