Do Wirless-N clients support 5GHz access points

I am looking at installing 5GHz wireless access points in our office. Do all wireless-n clients support 5GHz access points. If not, do most laptops these days support 5GHz?

Thank you!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No 5ghz is a different radio than 2.4 ghz radio.  If you had a b/g/n client, that is on the 2.4ghz.  If its a b/g/n/a then it supports 5ghz.  Laptops are being shipped supporting both bands but you need to check before you buy.  However, you can purchase APs that support both bands as well.

Ken is correct.  Allow me to further clarify.

802.11n is not a frequency - it is an extension of a frequency.  Both 802.11a and 802.11b/g can support 802.11n.  With that in mind, you could therefore have 2.4GHz 802.11n devices and 5GHz 802.11n devices.

Generally though, 5GHz clients do also support the 2.4GHz band.
