Previous behaviour is not an indication that the behaviour was correct or that it would continue to work in the same way going forwards.
However things rarely change on their own.

You need to bring the server up to date, you also need to ensure the devices are up to date. With ActiveSync being a service that changes frequently, you only get problems if you stay out of date.

You also need to check your ActiveSync device partnerships very carefully, ensure that they haven't been recreated automatically for some reason.

The error means what it says. Have you tried to create a new ActiveSync partnership?
Have you flushed out any old ones from old devices?

It would also help if you included full version information, as it isn't obvious what you have from your question. The tags say Exchange 2010, but there are three service packs and at least 30 rollups across those three service packs.

I have not created any new ActiveSync partnerships. We don't have any old ones from old devices as far as I know. We get the message for different users with iphones on different days but they are still getting information on the devices.

We are using Exchange 2010 Enterprise Service Pack 2.

"Exchange 2010 Enterprise Service Pack 2. "

That is no longer supported. You need to upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3 with the latest rollup.
ActiveSync has had a lot of work done on it, particularly for Apple's buggy implementation of ActiveSync, so you should really keep up to date.

Have you really had no one upgrade their devices at all? I find that hard to believe. I think every environment I have ever looked at that is more than six months old will have old partnerships.

We have several users with iphones 4, 5 and 6 and they don't have any problems getting their email on their phones. These event id messages literally just started showing up three days ago and we have not done any updates or changed anything on the Exchange Server.

Okay on bringing the server up to date with the latest service pack. How/where can we make sure that the ActiveSync device partnerships have not been recreated automatically?

Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
You just need to look at the partnerships on the account.
You can do this either with OWA or EMS.
An excellent article on the process is here:
