excel 2013 - spread sheet doe not open property

In excel when i open up an exiting document by clicking on the file  it does not open   ...the only work around is to open excel first and then browse for it.  What can i do to fix this?

when you click on a file and the executable is not already loaded and the calling procedure may time-out before the executable is ready to open the file. There are many variables at play here.. disk load and speed, memory loading cpu speed, Many of which are out of your control.

If you open excel to a blank page and then click on the data file you in all likelihood will not be seeing this problem happen

Try Alt-Tabbing and see if it's there, but a bit hidden.

Alternatively, try View - Arrange Windows.

Also try repairing your Office installation - your file associations in the registry may be incorrect and that usually helps. Also make sure that the option to ignore other applications that use DDE is not checked in Excel options.
