MRTG monitor certain interfaces every minute

Hello,

On some interfaces that MRTG is monitoring I need more information instead of the default every 5 minutes.  Is there a way to have a few interfaces get polled by the minute?

Yes.  The easy part is to just schedule mrtg to run every minute pointing to the "1 minute" configuration files and leave it running every 5 minutes pointing to the "5 minute" files.

The more difficult part is to separate the interfaces into different configuration files.  The Interfaces you want every 1 minute, need to go into one set of files and the interfaces you want to stay at 5 minutes, you keep where they are at.

so is there two steps that need to be done?  Is there a document that shows this?

Not really, but sort of.

When you setup MRTG you should have created come configuration files.  There should be one for every device you have MRTG monitoring.  What you need to do is make a "2nd" copy for each device that has a interface that you want to monitor every minute.

In the "5 minute" config files delete out each interface that you want to monitor every minute.
In the "1 minute" config files delete out each interface that you want to leave at 5 minutes.

Then depending on which platform you are running this on you want to schedule the mrtg collector task every minute pointing to the "1 minute" config files.
