I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The best way to allow a search engine to find your site is to create a sitemap that contains your pages in it. Then register your site with webmaster tools and sub,it the site to each of the major search engines.

You can have the best coding and perfect site map, but without content, it is going to be next to impossible to rank for this type of vertical.  Please see my answer here about tips for getting found http:/Q_28199213.html#a39367624

You are going up agains some big guns so public relations is going to be a big part of this.  Either that or your home page needs to have the type of content that attract people to the site like bears to honey.

Thanks. Does it mean we have to manually create the sitemap file?

Does it mean we also have to mention whatever images, that exist on the web site?

Jeffrey Dake Senior Director of TechnologyCommented:
Yes. You have to make the sitemap yourself.  As for images, you only have to include images if you want them to return in a Google image search. Most of the time people don't want that so i wouldn't worry about the images.

Thanks a lot.
For the example like

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"
  xmlns:image="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap-image/1.1"
  xmlns:video="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap-video/1.1">
  <url>

    <loc>http://www.example.com/foo.html</loc>
    <image:image>
       <image:loc>http://example.com/image.jpg</image:loc>
    </image:image>

    <video:video>
      <video:content_loc>
        http://www.example.com/video123.flv
      </video:content_loc>
      <video:player_loc allow_embed="yes" autoplay="ap=1">
        http://www.example.com/videoplayer.swf?video=123
      </video:player_loc>
      <video:thumbnail_loc>
        http://www.example.com/thumbs/123.jpg
      </video:thumbnail_loc>
      <video:title>Grilling steaks for summer</video:title>
      <video:description>
        Cook the perfect steak every time.
      </video:description>
    </video:video>

  </url>
</urlset>

Open in new window

does it mean I should put each sub-link after each "xmlns"?

Is there any better sitemap examples? Is it to provide main link with all sub-links within sitemap file?
