Help setting up Lync 2013 with External access, 2 servers only

I am trying to set up a simple Lync 2013 deployment for a small company.  I want to have a single standard front end server and a single edge server.  I have a SonicWall fire wall that supports a DMZ.  I am struggling to find a document on how to do this.  I have tried the planning tool.  I have read a book.  They all want to reverse proxy, multiple pools, etc.  I am looking for a good step by step guide for as simple a deployment as possible.  I want persistent chat, video conferencing,  Exchange integration, and external access.  No enterprise voice.  Can you point me to such a guide/white paper?

This is the process:  http://windowspbx.blogspot.com/2012/07/step-by-step-installing-lync-server.html

However, when you setup the pool, only add the single server to the pools. Edge pool one edge server. Front End pool, one server. Skiip the mediation server and you can also skip the directors as well.  Just adapt the proces described in the document to what you need.

I have worked through this article in the past.  It works great for setting up a single server in a lab for internal use.  However unless I am missing something it does not address setting up an edge server for external access.
This specifically covers the edge setup for federation:  http://www.orcsweb.com/blog/cory-granata/installing-lync-2013-edge-server/

I was not able to find a good solution for this and I gave up the project.
