SBS 2011 Essentials - folder redirections not being backed up

Hi all,

I installed the Win 7 Pro Pack Add-On to SBS 2011 Essentials, which gave me Folder Redirection.

The problem is, even though i specified that the Folder Redirections get backed up, they don't appear to be getting backed up. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

The folders might have special File System permissions that don't allow the backup process to take it's backups.
The best you can do in order to test the backup process, is to run a restore on another destination.

I think this is the root of the problem because even as the admin, I can't see the contents of the Folder Redirection folders. But I don't know how to change this, as I'm a network newbie.

Do you get an "Access is denied" type of error message or are not seeing anything in the redirected folders? There's a difference between the two.

you are supposed to be denied access to the users data files
you can add "SYSTEM" to the full control security properties and backup should work.

If I go forward, about the only thing I can do is change ownership. But if I change ownership to me (admin), wouldn't that deny access to the user?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, I think part of the problem is that Folder Redirection is not natively built into SBS 2011 "Essentials". I had to add it via the Windows 7 Pro Pack Add-In.

I think I got it figured out. I poked around a bit under Group Policy Management:

In the process, I think I learned how to do the Folder Redirection in Essentials w/o deploying Win 7 Pro Pack.

Thanks much.
