How do I create custom Outlook folders in O365 similar to Exch 2007's MRM?

Is there a way to create custom Outlook folders in Office 365 like MRM did? I can apply retention policies and tags to custom folders with no issue to existing users migrated from Exchange 2007 since they already had the folders. For example, folders might be named "HR -retain for 60 days" or "Legal -retain indefinitely". But this is an M and A project and so we are migrating users from another company's forest into our Office 365 environment and they won't have the custom folders and we would like them to have them.

Any input is appreciated.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No built-in method for that, but you can use EWS. Here's an example script (you have to run it with the EWS URL parameter and provide the value for "" EO):

And here's an article with detailed instructions on how to work with Folders using EWS:
