How would I do this with a worksheet function instead of a user defined function?

looking to not use VBA for this.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need INDIRECT:

=INDIRECT("A1")
returns the value in A1, for example.

Not for points...rory answer is correct..in your workbook you are referring to B1 which is blank..change this to C4 and you will get the answer.

Why do you need a function to get one cell's value?
Jeff DarlingDeveloper AnalystAuthor Commented:
I have a cell that holds the address.   I then need a way to get the text from that address.

It works using Indirect.
