I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

An API isn't really a user interface, by definition it is a Application Interface..

Jeff is right.  The user wouldn't normally be able to tell the difference unless they were a tech person who knew what was happening.  Even if you display data from a database, the user can't tell if you used a simple query or a full-blown API to do it.

Yes, that was my thought.

Actually my question is incomplete (my apologies), I forgot to mention that the API is for authentication and I believe that the websites that do not run on these APIs use cookies, right?

Either way, from a user perspective he shouldn't notice what is going on.
Dave BaldwinFixer of ProblemsCommented:
Web sites that use APIs also use cookies.  Virtually all web sites that need to keep track of the users do so with cookies.
