cisco 2950 dir flash: query

hi I have 3 x cisco 2950 switches and I have removed the following:

- vlan.dat
- config.text

then reload switch, but when I then do:

- dir flash:  - I get the following but not sure why ?

switch a - dir flash: - enter

info
env_vars
c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6.bin
private-config.text
html
info.ver
m.cli

switch b - dir flash: enter

env_vars
c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6.bin
private-config.text
info
html
info.ver

switch c - dir flash: enter

env_vars
c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6 the (.bin) - is not showing at the end like switch a & b why  ?
private-config.text

question1.  why are they all different or not in any order like switch a, although the switches appear to work fine  ?

note:  the reason why im asking is because im deleting everything so the switches should be like out of a brand new box and going to configure fresh.

The order the files show up in is irrelevant.  It has nothing to do with how the switch functions.  It is simply a matter of the order they were created.

Even switches fresh out of the box don't have the files in the same order.

ok but they are not all identical  ?
Don JohnstonInstructorCommented:
What do you mean by "they are not all identical"?

You said they are all 2950's.  Do you mean they aren't the same sub-model?

yes but if you compare the files left:

switch a - dir flash: - enter

info - not in switch c
 env_vars - not in switch c
 c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6.bin
 private-config.text
html - not in switch c
 info.ver - not in switch c
 m.cli - not in switch b or switch b

switch b - dir flash: enter

 env_vars
 c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6.bin
 private-config.text
 info
 html
 info.ver

switch c - dir flash: enter

 env_vars
c2950-i6q412-mz.121-22.ea6 the (.bin) - is not showing at the end like switch a & b why  ?
 private-config.text

If you want to get rid of files in flash, just delete them.  Some are rarely (if ever) used anyway like the html files (those are if you want to use the web interface).

The environment variables contain the results of boot system commands in the config. If you don't that file in flash, delete it.

The only way I know to delete the private-config.text is a "write erase" followed by a reload.

As for the missing ".bin" someone must have left it off when copying the IOS over. So rename the file with the ".bin".

hi don,  yes I understand.

question 1.  how do I rename an ios already installed in my 2950  ?

yes I wouldn't mind having the ability to configure the switch via the web interface

the reason I ask is because I am not able to currently do:  copy flash tftp timeout - issue and thought this was the problem so did not want to configure my switches until I resolved the 'copy' issue which I have been stuck on for a couple of days now.
