Cross-flash Dell R510 - NX3100 BIOS?

Looks like I have to replace a Dell NX3100 motherboard but the supplier only has a Dell R510 motherboard available. Can I download the NX3100 firmware from Dell's website and cross-flash it onto the new R510 mobo?

probably not
in my experience, if you try to flash a bios for a system board that doesn't match, the bios update fails
get the R510 bios

Dell Server BIOS PowerEdge R510 Version 1.12.0

In general that's true but if you look at the NX3100 BIOS you'll see it's always released about 3 days after the R510 - someone has to tweak the server name that's displayed during POST. The boards seem to be identical although I do not have access to read the part numbers.

Probably not is correct. Don't know if it did cross-flash or not as we threw it back to Dell as they fitted the spare part.
