shutdown esxi 5.5 though ups after windows server

Hi,

I have windows server 2012 installed on esxi 5.5 server.

APC 2kva online ups model no. src2000xli is connected to server.

I want if power goes down then ups should shut down my windows 2012 server first and then esxi 5.5 before batter going down.

how could I do this?
please help

thanks.

The easiest method, is for you to use the Network Management Software (FREE) from APC, and a Network Management Card. If you are trying to do this via USB, you will need to connect the USB UPS to a VM, and then run scripts, when the UPS detects a power out signal.

Is your ESXi 5.5 the FREE version, but the process is different...

Is this a standalone ESXi server or part of a cluster? How is the UPS "connected"?

If you have a separate host that can be used to install the network shutdown module (software from APC/Schneider) on it you can use this to gracefully shutdown the ESXi server.

You also need to configure to shutdown your 2012 guest vm before the server is shutdown, you can do this through the vSphere client under "Virtual Machine Startup/Shutdown" settings.
