Can I stop paper port from coming to foreground during scans?

I have a customer with paper port 14. They start scanning a large document, and then switch to their main (non paper port) application. The problem is that with each page that is scanned the Paperport app comes to the foreground.
Customer wants to keep it in the background. ( They scan a lot of pages) .  Complaint is that they can't enter data into their app while Paperport is scanning.  

Any Ideas on how to keep paper port in the background (after switching to another app)  while scanning?

Oh, Just a note ... this didn't happen with PaperPort 12 on their 32 bit system.

Are they using PaperPort?  If not, uninstall it!

There is no fix for this in PaperPort 14 — not even the latest PP14.5. It is a well-known issue in PP circles that has been around for quite a while. I recently had this exchange with Nuance Technical Support:
Joe Winograd: This is one of those long-standing PP issues and I'm wondering if you know of a solution. It doesn't affect me much because I have a separate computer that does scanning with PP14.5. But it drives many users nuts and I'm trying to help one right now. The issue is that when scanning a multi-page document, the PP scanning manager (with both Display scanner dialog box and Show Capture Assistant unchecked) steals focus on every page. It makes it just about impossible to use your computer for any other purpose while PP is scanning a large document. Do you know of a fix or work-around? Thanks much, Joe
Nuance Technical Support: Nuance has determined this behavior cannot be changed in 14 and will be investigated for inclusion in 15.
So my hope is that PP15 will have a fix. In the meantime, if your customer has a spare computer lying around, or one that isn't used much, you could take my approach — scan on a different computer, placing the scanned docs into a shared folder. I view the other computer as a "scanning workstation" and it allows me to stay productive on my primary computer. Picking up the scanned docs from a shared folder — either a network share (like a NAS) or a peer-to-peer share — works perfectly.

There is definitely enough information to confirm an answer. The answer is not what the asker wants to hear, but it IS the answer! Sometimes "NO" or "This can't be done" is the answer.

I have been using PaperPort for more than 20 years. I have written extensively on it, both here at EE and elsewhere. I am a Moderator of a PaperPort Yahoo Group, Manager of a PaperPort Google Group, and Owner of a PaperPort Wiki. Because of this, I have direct access to PaperPort's Tier 3 Technical Support. The response I posted is from them — Tier 3 Technical Support — and the answer is:
Nuance has determined this behavior cannot be changed in 14 and will be investigated for inclusion in 15.
