If Statement on Docmd.applyfilter

Hello,

I would like to see if I can have an

If/Then statement on a DoCmd.ApplyFilter?

If DoCmd.ApplyFilter "", "LicenseNumber='" & Me.txtSearch & "'" =0 then
msgbox "No Records, check your License Number", vbOKOnly
Else
Continue filter... (????)
End if

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You would first need to use Dcount() to see is there are any matching records.

Syntax:
DCount ( expression, domain, [criteria] )

Something like this
If DCount ( "*", Me.RecordSource , "LicenseNumber='" & Me.txtSearch & "'" ) = 0 then
msgbox "No Records, check your License Number", vbOKOnly
Else
    DoCmd.ApplyFilter "", "LicenseNumber='" & Me.txtSearch & "'"
End if

You could also use a comnbo box control to select from a list of the actual License numbers since you are doing an exact ("=") match

If you want to be able to filter by any part of the license number then try:

If DCount ( "*", Me.RecordSource , "LicenseNumber Like '*" & Me.txtSearch & "*'" ) = 0 then
msgbox "No Records, check your License Number", vbOKOnly
Else
    DoCmd.ApplyFilter "", "LicenseNumber Like '*" & Me.txtSearch & "*'"
End if
