Email marketing software / vendors

I came across this:

I have used email software like mailchimp and aweber before and I don't quite understand how ongage helps.

I talked with the sales/support person and they told me that I can choose from multiple such providers (so, it gives me options).

But what would the point be of using ongage? I mean, I would still be using the ESP (email service providers) the same way as I would be dealing with them directly.

I'm not 100% sure of this just from reading their web site, but it appears they are a combination of an email service provider and strategic consultants.

So the service would be:

1) Tell them how you currently use email and what you need to track
2) They tell you what you could be doing better/differently
3) They design a customized solution for all aspects of email and a centralized dashboard to manage it all.

This is a tool that would be helpful if you've completed a sophisticated analysis of your Email Marketing Campaigns past performance, across multiple systems. Or you're interested in experimenting with a variety of different systems, to see if you can improve your campaign performance.

For example your marketing department uses Aweber, the sales team uses an SMTP relay connected to Salesforce and you also have an internal SAAS platform (your product) that emails users/leads/etc via a hosted email server. You have a lot of data available thanks to these systems.

Upon analyzing the performance of emails sent through each system, you may identify that the internal platform has horrible delivery or open rates for gmail addresses.  You also notice that the sales team has a very high bounce rate with yahoo and hotmail accounts.

With this info you'd tie all of your systems into ongage and then begin segmenting appropriately. For example, never send to gmail addresses via your internal system, instead use something different (aweber, smtp relay, etc), with better delivery to gmail.  Never send to yahoo/hotmail via your internal SAAS system, instead route it through a different relay.

Ongage may also be willing to share insight as to what platforms have better delivery for certain types of campaigns as well. This could help shorten the experimentation phase as you could roll out a new ESP that is more relevant to your list.
