MacBook Pro & Apple Mail

I am experiencing some real problems with adding an account to the Mail App program. The account behaves as it should and then
inexplicably the account will vanish from the app!

On a related topic am I able to transfer my contacts I'm Using the Office 365 version of Outlook for Mac. It would appear that Microsoft and Macs do not play very well together

Rebuild Plist (preferences)   Simplest thing to try first

Quit Apple Mail.
Navigate to the following directory:
 (OS X 10.7+)* and drag the following file to the Desktop: (Figure B)
Open Apple Mail to allow the application to recreate a new preferences file.

Troubleshoot by creating a new Gmail account and add that to Mail?
The account type you are attempting to add may not work well with Mail.
