connecting a Mac to a windows file server

I have a Mac user that connects to a windows file share,

When we connect to smb://home2srvr.XXXXXXXX.edu/home2/username
Everything is fine,
but when we connect to smb://home2srvr/username
the user can see everything and open it but not save anything.

Thank you

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Did you try adding the domain XXXXXXX.edu to the Network system preferences?

Are you using a domain account on the Mac or is it a local user?

Mark, I have not tried adding the domain to the system preferences but will.

I have a 80% Mac environment and all my Macs have been logged onto the domain.

I would suggest that you try logging it onto the domain - It makes authentication to windows servers painless and you can setup periodic sync for "offline" files.
