Excel

Hello,

I have column A that is my file number, column B is a date of a transaction. I have duplicate file numbers due to there being multiple transactions from the date ranges I needed. How would I get the most recent date for each file number and delete the duplicates that are older transaction dates. I just need to keep 1 file number but it has to be the most recent transaction date. Thank you!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

WO2015, I have had this before.

I was just able to sort by ColumnA (smallest to largest), and then ColumnB (largest to smallest).

After the file is sorted, then you can click on DATA >> Data Tools >>  "Remove Duplicates". Unselect ALL, then just choose "File Number" (ColumnA), and press OK.

This will keep the first entry of each duplicate.

Your results should be the most recent transaction for each file number.

Enjoy!
