How do I solve this issue with Kali Linux:


I am trying to install a software update in Kali Linux to make my VPN to be ready for use and I get this message below and I dont know what to do, Can you help...

PS: One thing I have noticed is that now I have the dollar sign instead a Hash. Please see this message below.

You're not root. Retry as root or with sudo.
It sounds like you're not in a privileged shell when you issue the apt-get command. Use "su" or "sudo" as appropriate -- or log in as "root" -- and then you should be able to run the apt-get command successfully.

The $ prompt is the normal shell prompt. The # prompt is an indicator that you are running as root.

You have defined the root password during installation of Kali Linux. I'm not thinking you're running a live image from cdrom but if you are then the root password is toor
