Every time I double-click an attachment, I get ANOTHER instance of Excel opening?

I inadvertantly double-clicked an attachment so many times I got a bunch of Excel instances opening.  Yes, I also received the "out of memory, please close some other programs" message after a while.

How can I prevent instances of Excel opening when I double-click an Outlook attachment?  Or am I wrong in even asking that question?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Microsoft changed this back and forth years ago. Now, for any reasonably modern version of Excel, opening a new workbook opens a new version of Excel.  Keep open what you need, make sure your computer has 8 GB of memory and you should not have issues.
