CISCO 4510R-E

Hi Experts,

I have a new C4510 from Cisco.
two Supervisor Engines 8E are also installed, one as active and one as Standby.
Each unit has 8 10G ports.

But I just can use 2 Ports of it.
All other 10G ports are inactive.
Is it possible to use all 8 Ports as 10G ports ? and how ?

when I put a 10GB SFP into port 5 or 7 and I check the command SHOW INTERFACE STATUS, I can see the SFP´s.
But the Status of the interface is always INACTIVE

I have read an article, just the first 2 ports are active.
This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.

Thanks.

Please refer to the following links - specifically table 2 here...
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-728191.html

...and table 3 here...
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/configuration/notes/OL_29676.html

You can't use all 8 10G ports on the supervisor in dual-supervisor configurations.  You can only use 4x 10G uplinks on each supervisor.  If you remove the standby supervisor you can use all 8 10G ports.

I know that answers why you can't use all 8 ports, but it implies you can use 4 ports per supervisor, however you can only use 2.  Therefore the limitation may be software (according to the first link 4 port enablement in dual-supervisor mode is on the software roadmap), so it may be that you need to upgrade IOS to enable ports 3-4.

Going back to your comment...

But the Status of the interface is always INACTIVE
...that makes sense based on the links.

my IOS is version 15, the latest.
But I have to check if the ports 3-4 are coming up.
I just tested the ports 7-8.
Eprs_Admin

ASKER
But why just 4 of 8 Ports are usable ?
This makes no sense for me.
