exchange email issues on an iphone

I have an important user, with an iphone.  I am having issues with the user's exchange email coming through onto it.  If I delete out the account, and reinstall the settings on the iphone, it seems to begin working again.  Eventually though, the emails slow down and stop coming through.  The emails are set to come through on the 'push' setting.  I am not sure if the AOL mail on her iphone could be conflicting.  There are thousands of AOL messages on her phone, as I can't limit the amount of AOL email that syncs up.

Please reply with any ideas on how to fix her exchange email, so that it comes in regularly, and does not stop.  Thank you very much.

Limit the amount of exchange email it retains.  This happens to my CEO because he keeps setting it to unlimited retention.  I set it back to 2 weeks or 1 month and it works normally.  If they need older email search will search online for older emails so there is no real reason to keep full mailbox on the phone.
