Outlook - IMAP Email Lag Mystery

I have been using Outlook 2013 for a while

Recently I switched hosting services for my web page and email and have had a series of issues that my provider can't solve and he is telling me it's an outlook problem?

My set-up is as follows:

- The email provider has set things up to have emails that arrive got to two email accounts
    1) My standard email account registered the same as my domain name
    2) An AOL account

- My Outlook is set-up with two accounts as well:
   1) The standard email as my primary account set-up as an IMAP account
   2) The AOL account set-up as a second account

The Problems:
  1) Email arrive on the second AOL account promptly after the sender sends them (immediately if I click send / receive). On my primary account (with the domain name) there is a lag (sometimes hours) before the same email arrives. The provider says it's not a problem on their end but I can't find any differences in the setup of either account that would cause this.

 2) With my previous provider if I created subfolders in my IMAP account they showed-up on my tablet and IPhone but with this new provider the subfolders don't show-up. The provider says this is an iPhone issue but I don't think that is the case,

Can anybody point me in the right direction to figure this out?

Thanks

In Outlook have you tried  to check the Imap folders?

Right click on the inbox

Menu select Imap folders

click query

what shows up?

Make sure all folders are subcribed

The folders I created in outlook don't show-up in the IMAP folders list?

Have you looked using the web interface?

Are you sure they are all subscribed?

Folders are not subscribed and when I right click they don't allow me to subscribe

My service is through ipower and I am also trying to get their help - no luck so far
Thomas GrassiSystems AdministratorCommented:
you must select all the folders before you can subscribe them

highlight all folders then click on subscribe

Verify you out going smtp port 587? is this correct?

your second screen show would not open

The first screen shot page 2 on the subscribed tab did you do a query? did the folders show there?

Looks like we will be changing from iPower to Microsoft Exchange to solve the problem

I think it is a combination of issues:

1) iPower email processing?
2) Having iPower forward incoming emails to my email address and an "alternate backup" aol address
3) Having my email address and an AOL email address both on my computer as IMAP addresses

I'm optimistic that the switch to an office 365 Outlook Exchange account will be the "Magic Bullet"

I'll keep you posted

I was wondering why you was using imap.

Imap has issues with sub folders we use Outlook and thunderbird client and most times after adding a new folder or other folder maintenance you are required to exit out subscribe etc.

using exchange will solve this problem..
