Exchange 2007 send as without read permission

Hi,

Is there a way to allow a user to be able to send as another user but without having the ability to view emails in the person's inbox?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In order for a user to view a mailbox they required Full Access Permissions. This is completely different than "Send-As" or "Send on behalf of". You can in fact give someone Full Access and not allow them Send-As or Send on behalf of, this is typical.

However you can also do the reverse. You can provide someone Send-As or Send on behalf of without providing full mailbox permissions.

Send-As is an Active Directory permission specifically and Send on behalf of is an Exchange permission. Either one will work and does not require Full Access to the mailbox.

When the user has Send-As permissions or Send on behalf of all the sender needs to do is open a new email and change the From to the user they want to send-as.

Just be careful when using Send-As because there will be no way of knowing who is actually sending the email unless you have logging enabled. Send on behalf of is a safer approach because you can see the origainal sender who sent the email.

Send-as does come in to play in a lot of situations but if you want to see who is actually sending the mail other than the owner of the mailbox you will need to enable logging on this account or within Exchange itself.

Will.
