hyper v 2012 R2 checkpoint

Got a few questions related to checkpoints in hyper v:

1) After reverting to a checkpoint, the checkpoint is still available, what is the best way to delete it as it is no longer needed? (without merging to the VHDs)

2) What is the difference between apply a checkpoint vs revert?

3)  When I delete a checkpoint, it automatically merge to the VHDx, isnt it the same of reverting then?

Thank you in advance for the clarification

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

1: Delete a checkpoint/snapshot and the differencing disk gets merged into the parent. This is expected behaviour.

2: When I click on the previous Checkpoint I only see APPLY. Not sure where REVERT is coming from? That steps the VM back to that point in time.

3: No. Deleting a checkpoint is essentially saying we don't need that point in time anymore. So, delete it and the differencing disk that kept it. Once merged that point in time for the VM is gone.
