Upgrade XP to Windows 7 know-how

Hi all,
I have 3 XP computers that I have virtualised. I now need to get them to Windows 7. We have applications installed that nobody understands how they got installed, the source code\ setup programs are gone and so we can't re-install. I know I cannot directly upgrade to Win 7 but can jump to Vista and then to Win7. So my question is in 2 parts.
1. I can't seem to find where I can download Vista so that I can use it temporarily (my XP machines are fully licensed).

2. Is there a tool that can be used that can point at the XP box and rip or copy out the application settings so to be copied or deployed to a Windows 7 box?

Thanks for looking

For Question 2

PCMover http://www.laplink.com/index.php/individuals/pcmover-for-windows-8/feature-overview is the application recommended around here.

However it may or may NOT work for you.

For Question 1

Vista isn't downloadable.  Windows 7 used to be downloadable but Microsoft removed the links.

Hi, that product only works if the source computer is Windows 7.
Here a link to various versions of Vista ....

It's not a pirate site .... there are no serials/cracks.
The trial period should be enough to help in the transition to Windows7.
If these applications are vital I would also recommend doing an image of the disks before the upgrade. That way if the upgrade goes wrong you can always recover back to XP to use the applications.

Do be aware that if the systems are capable of running Windows 7 64-bit, and you install Vista / Windows 7 64-bit instead of the 32-bit version, there is a fair probability that some applications won't work at all even with W7 XP mode.  In that case you will need to set the system up for dual boot of XP vs. Vista/W7, or run XP in the Microsoft Virtual PC.
