Increase hard disk in VMware Workstation 10 fail

I am trying to increase/expand hard disk on a virtual machine in VMware workstation 10.  I use encryption to protect the VM.  I have decrypted the VM to use it. However, I when I attempt to increase disk size, I receive "Encryption Failed" error using the built-in utilities.  I cannot map it either do to encryption.  I can disable encryption, but would prefer not to. Also, I don't want to risk losing any data.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would make a backup, e.g. use the CLONE option, and then you have a safe backup, and then try and disable the encryption, extend, and re-enable encryption, and test if it works, and no loss of data.
