vsphere client 5.5 / 5.1 on same system

Hi I want to install both vsphere client 5.1 and 5.5 on the same workstation how can I do that? When I am installing 5.5 it is asking me for the 5.1 upgrade.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can't you manage the 5.1 environment with your 5.5 client? That should work ... Or is there another reason you want both versions?

@spravtek The vSphere 5.1 client will not manage 5.5, and 5.5 vSphere Client will not manage 5.1.

You need to use a client download per ESXi installation, it has always been this way. What the installation does, is actually add the DLL files that are required to connect to the correct version which is detected at connection.

Yes, this is possible. We have vSphere Client with 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 5.5 and 6.0 on the same workstation.

Obtain the different versions 5.5 client and 5.1 client and install them.

5.1 client links for download can be found in these EE Articles I have written
Part 1: HOW TO: Install and Configure VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.1 (ESXi 5.1)

Part 2: HOW TO: Connect to the VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.1 (ESXi 5.1) using the vSphere Client

@spravtek The vSphere 5.1 client will not manage 5.5, and 5.5 vSphere Client will not manage 5.1.

It can't? I thought that was possible now? Strange ...

One of my colleague just told me to change the location of 5.5 installation in program files.

Just install 5.1 and 5.5 clients, default installation, don't worry about the installation path, the installation program will sort it out.
