voip call quality -- troubleshooting ?

I have a 3CX.com onPremise PBX that is using under 10% CPU/memory, but 10 seconds out of 10 minutes of talking is bad somedays.

My firewall, FIIBER internet, network switches, VOIP provider, etc all seem to be OK.

Is there any tracking software so I can find what device is causing this issue ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you using SIP or copper?

In this situation, 9/10 it's the SIP provider or your ISP.  I had such a bear of a time trying to fix this problem, I wound up just going with a partial PRI and the Patton PRI gateway.

Your first step should be to open a ticket with your SIP provider.  Who are they?

Also, is your maintenance contract valid on your 3cx installation?

Double also, is your server vitualized?  What are the exact hardware specs?

Hard drive I/O is another place to look in certain situations.  You can usually replicate high drive I/O by using hard drive benchmark software on the PBX during a call and see if you can replicate the line noise.

http://voipinnovations.com is the SIP provider,
just purchased 3CX version 12.5 and I have a one-year
warranty, but 3CX does not seem to help a lot.

Do you have a better SIP provider ?

I used broadvox and fired them the next day...   I'm not kidding, remote SIP is trash.  You have no way of validating QOS from your ISP to your SIP provider.

3cx is an awesome, robust and cheap product.  The catch, you're really on your own.  The support guy I get is an agitated maniac, but brilliant beyond all belief.  Worse than the soup nazi...  The money you save using their product, is immediately made up for during your first disaster.

They do offer classes and you can probably find a 3cx reseller in your area.  They have much better connections to support as they are 'in bed' together.  I have a physical gateway device made by patton.  I believe it's the 4940 smart node???  Anyway, that attaches to physical copper (PRI).  We live and breath by our phones here, so skimping could only go so far.
