Could you point a free and reasonably good software to edit vídeos (mpg)

Hi Experts

Could you point a free and reasonably good software to edit vídeos (mpg). That you have experienced.

Since I'm capturing image from VHS vídeos do mpg and due some VHS failures that make it to be reinicialized (memory dumps occurred during the vídeo captures)  I need a software to "merge" the vídeos produced.

Thanks in advance

The easiest way to do this, and a way that would work with any operating system would be to use the free YouTube Video Editor:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/183851?hl=en

You could use that to edit videos even if you do not publish them directly.

If you want something more powerful that runs on your desktop then beware that it will also be more complicated and confusing however Avidemux is a good free and open-source video editing program.  It runs on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD.

Shotcut is also good:

If you don't want to do this online, you can use something like VideoPad Video Editor, free for non-commercial use.

Caveat:
* During installation of this download you will be given the option to install Google® Chrome and closely related programs from the NCH Software suite. These are optional and you can select what you want depending on your requirements.
Make sure that uncheck the appropriate boxes so as not to install stuff you don't want!

I really recommend windows moviemaker it's free and simple to use.
Like any beginning in this filed of video editing you need to learn a few simple steps first.
Learn the interface of the video editor is the main thing and WLMM is very simple.
As WLMM is part of Microsoft suite of tools Windows Essentials
I also recommend just downloading the suite, it includes photo Gallery and WLMM now called windows moviemaker
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-live/essentials
If your not interested then go for it alone.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-live/movie-maker
In order for it to run your video card drivers need to be up to date
If you have Nvidia go to nvidia and run the Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
if you have ATI same thing go to AMD Driver Autodetect
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
Now Windows Movie maker should open just fine
WMM I find supports.Mov .mp4 mpeg avi not flash. This is the windows 7 version.
The next steps are really simply, to merge your video clips but lets first do a another preliminary step, once these video are merged what do you want to do next keep it like that or burn it to DVD?
If you want to burn it to DVD you have a limit of 4.5 gig for all standard home DVD-r.
What is the current video format mpeg? that's fine but check the output size of the merged mpg video, taking that onboard lets merge some.
Open WMM and in the center >click here to browse for video.
Or you can drag and drop
open your video folder and drag one on.
Wait till it populates, with mp4 the audio also has to be produced.
Then scroll down to the end of this video clip and put your curser on the end drag the next video on repeat
until you have a few. Like anything don't do too many as the bigger it is the longer it takes.
If you dont want to learn those little extras right now like adding captions then just go to the top left save movie for
Holding your mouse over each output shows you the size and video scale, the best quality is for high definition display and it's not too big but saves it mp4.
WLMM menusave movie for>Make a DVDIf you wanted to make a DVD when you go to save movie for choose DVD, then wlmm will produce your movie first then it opens to windows DVD maker already on your windows 7 start all programs
Windows DVD is quite good, you will need a blank DVD-r verbatim or TDK burn at x4 speed or x8 written on the dvd-R disks. Burn DVD slowly,
To save me I'll post a guide to windows 7 DVD maker
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5499/create-and-author-dvds-in-windows-7/
Here's a small quick video I made showing you drag and drop video on and then go to save movie for in wlmm
it is that easy
