I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

LMS - learning management software

hosted vs on-premise it is exactly the same as for any product.
Hosted is usually kept up to date, frequent backups, geo-redundant, load-balanced, small upfront cost, fixed monthly charge plus variable bandwidth charge. Can be harder to update/customize.  Guaranteed Service Level Agreement.

On-Premise - high upfront cost, you are responsible for load balancing, backups, software and hardware acquisition and maintenance
