convert .ost file to .pst file

Dear all,

right  now have the Windows 8.1 PC failed and I restore all file including the .pst files, but I need the outlook notes item back!

But I can't open the .ost file or import that from outlook 2010, I can only convert .ost to .pst file and import to outlook , right?

what tools you guys has tried to do it which reserve all notes item inside?

OST files are CACHES of the Exchange Mailbox.  The data should be in Exchange.  Simply reconnect to Exchange and let it rebuild the OST.

ASKER

Lee W, MVP,

sorry, that one is my personal outlook, to my Hotmail account.

hn Hurst,

for the stellar, any diff between free edition and paid edition ?

alanccw,

any diff between free edition and paid edition ?
what I plan to do is once this pst can be come out:

1) open outlook but I don't login from outlook 2010,
2) copy all item to outlook again.
3) close the application again and launch again and type in password,

in this case, outlook don't need to download everything again from ground up.

"t to save them as PST file, you need to buy the license of the software"

so this mean convert them to PST we need to pay anyway ? preview them don't allow me to copy the item out and save it to the outlook ?
I browse that page again and I don't know what is the diff between:

1) OST to PST Converter (Tech) and
2) OST to PST Converter

any idea? I think the USD99.99 can do the work already ?
basically any free one can do the job ? USD99 for one single purpose might be too expensive!
@marrowyung  - PST files are proprietary formats and you need paid tools to convert from OST to PST. Stellar is a good choice but you have to pay.
yeah.... USD99.00 for just one convertion .

I am thinking  except I don't want my item back!

other choice also good ?

IMHO creating an OST file with the Hotmail account, as you had before the crash, and then copying the real OST over to that new one should do. Worth a try, at least.
Dear marrowyung. $99 is not an expensive deal if you buy this tool. You can use the same copy to convert working ost into pst, as well as for convert corrupt outlook ost file to pst format.

I think it is the plus point! You are getting the ost recovery and ost converter tool(both features in same tool) both in $99. Its not a bad deal in this amount. Check here if you had missed some features of this software http://www.stellarservertools.com/ost-pst-converter.php
John Hurst,

yeah, I might do this but it depends on how diff is that copy and the copy at home PC. if I remember the item missing in the diff set, I might just type it back myself,.

Qlemo,

IMHO ?  you mean create the same hotmail account and let outlook recreate the .ost file again, then copy the one before crash and overwrite it, then outlook will read the same file and open it up? I tried this one before it doesn't work. outlook will complain that the .ost has been open by other PC before.

bobluis,

"You can use the same copy to convert working ost into pst, as well as for convert corrupt outlook ost file to pst format. "

yeah, you mean keep using it for later similar event, right? I have this in mind. but that kind of chance is very less likely, agree?

you know, I just update a chrome patch and reboot my Windows 8.1 laptop, then it can't boot up any more, this is the only problem in last 3 years.

it is said that outlook's notes item don't stay online but local PC, I think this is what MS wants.

Yeah, I purchased the Acronis TI tools for USD26.99 for just few weeks, and I just prepare for the one off HDD clone only but it can't serve me many round in 5 years.

one thing, TI is not doing good job for RAID disk. one single disk is good for clone and RAID DISK can't clone!!
anyone of you use:

before? any comment on this ?
done the refresh PC and everything seems good. we need the Windows 8.1 source file / DVD on hand before it can be done.
it is good that I have the Windows 8.1 x64 with update DVD on hand and I don't have much security patches to go after that, the first round has 141 patches, toke a long time.

the rest of patches is after office 2010 installed.
tks anyway, I already finish restoring them.
tks.

"Select the “Import and Export” wizard or press ‘t’."

so export does work to back up email, right?

you tried that before?

Also I have outlook 2010, and I try to install office 365 in the same PC, is it works ?will outlook 2010 gone once installation is done ?

will the email on outlook 2010 all gone even if outlook 2010 installation not gone ?
any idea on the office 365 ?
