Linux Server Backup

We have Oracle Enterprise Linux servers and need to perform the following backup as top priority.

1) There are partitions for applications files and data files separately. How can we perform the backup of all partitions to  separate location (to any network location)
2) Perform a complete backup of system so that any disaster happens we can restore the entire system, Is this possible in linux server?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For file based backups there are dozens of solutions for linux.

Here an overview.

For desaster recovery backup you can use imaging software like clonezilla to make an image backup which can easyly be restoreds on the same hardware.
For migrationg to other hardware some work is necessary usually using this method.

Lately I just started testing backup with systemimager,
which is meant for deploying an OS, but can be used to do backups too:

Also check http://relax-and-recover.org/    use ReaR for booting an restoring the system layout, and restoring the backup.
