HP ProCurve Switch MAC Filtering

Hi Experts,

We have a HP ProCurve 2910al-24G-POE+ switch. Is there any possibility to implement MAC filtering at a specific port only (eg. port 23 & 24 only)? The scenario is, we have IP phone in conferencing room, but I don't like visitors connect to office network via IP Phone LAN port. I will only authorize a few laptops to use that port. The Data & Voice network are not in different VLAN, also there is no plan to put them into different VLAN because all staffs are using LAN port of the VoIP phone connect to network.

Create ACL with MAC addresses
Assign it to ports reachable by public (same way you can allow couple of diagnostic laptops on all currently disconnected ports)

Hi,

The fact that all users are using LAN port on the IP Phones doesn't mean to have the same Vlan!! the ideal is to configure separate Voice and Data Vlans and tag, the voice Vlan.

Have a look here for more details:

Once you have separated the Vlan, you can either use a different Vlan for the conferencing room or use DHCP with specific pool dedicated to visitor which can be controlled by a policy, or use NAP in order to validate client

Here is more details regarding NAP

This is a suggestion which may not suitable for you, bur for sure you need to consider separating Voice and Data traffic to avoid quality problem for both traffics!

Regards.

Hi Gheist, I am not very familiar with HP switch. I cannot find these stuffs from web UI (probably because of firmware too old). Are you able to provide some sample commands using telnet commands?

Thank you.

Hi Salah,

Thank you for your advise. For long term we will definitely plan for it. For short term, I will need to do something to stop potential security breach and report to management.
