Certificate error only when using www

We recently installed a wild card cert on one of our web servers. When connecting to the site using just the https://site name, it works fine with no errors.

But, when we add the www like https://www.sitename.com , we get a certificate error. What did we miss?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Without seeing the certificate, it's difficult to say.  The Subject Name of the certificate should be something like: *.sitename.com

Is that what you have?
Are there any Subject Alternative Names (SAN) listed?

On the computer you are browsing FROM, is the network adapter configured to append a domain suffix?
